The IsaMill is a stirred-medium grinding mill, in which the grinding medium and the ore being ground are stirred rather than being subjected to the tumbling action of older high-throughput mills (such as ball mills and rod mills). Stirred mills often consist of stirrers mounted on a rotating shaft located along the central axis of the mill.

ISAMILL FINE GRINDING TECHNOLOGY AND ITS INDUSTRIAL

It was jointly invented by Mount Isa Mines of Australia and Netzsch Feinmahltecknik GmbH of Germany for ultra-fine and fine grinding duties in the minerals industry. IsaMill operations started in 1994 at the Mount Isa Mines Lead/Zinc Concentrator and then at MIM’s McArthur River Mine in 1995.

The mill operates 70–80% full of small (1.5–6mm) grinding media. The discs agitate this media to grind the feed slurry. The patented product separator retains media in the IsaMill™ by ˜rst centrifuging it and then pumping it back towards the feed end of the mill.
